Add the two equations together to eliminate the 2y:

. x + 2y = 9
3x - 2y = -5
----------------
4x ...... = -4

Now just divide both sides by 4:
x = -1

Simply substitute this back into one of the equations to get y:
(-1) + 2y = 9

Add 1 to both sides:
2y = 10

Divide both sides by 2:
y = 5

So the answer is x = -1, y = 5

for the first one, x= -7 and y=8
I subtracted the second equation from the first equation to isolate the x variable
3x-2y=-5 then plug it into the equation
(-) x+2y=9 -7+2y=9
------------------ 2y=16
2x= -14 >>> x= -7 y=8

I'm not really sure how to do the second one, soorryyyy

Well Since I am A Math Nerd it should be easy !

x=7 since 7+2 = 9

You have to change the subtraction sign to addition and add regularly

oh. guess not. sorry!

i dunno if you're talking about substitution...
but if that's it, then:

x+2y=9
x=-2y+9

3x+-2y=-5
3(-2y+9)+-2y=-5
-6y+27+-2y=-5
-8y+27=-5
-8y=-32
y=4

x+2y=9
x+2(4)=9
x+8=9
x=1
