7 weeks before the due date, I took my wife in for a test that takes about 30 minutes. That was a 7 a.m. At 6 p.pm. they took my son by c-section, due to problems inside his mommy. 3 lbs 4 oz. of baby that fit between my hand and elbow. I didn't have time to get nervous. But now it's nearly 25 years later, and although the wife got divorced, and passed away from a heart attack, that boy is still the reason I keep breathing. Well, that and the new wife I have now. No floor pacing for me until I got the kidlet home, then it was pacing all night, and feeding and changing at all kinda weird hours. Nothing like it in the world.

This is a nice poem
it talks about a father
pacing around waiting
for his bundle of joy
to arrive.
The floor would have to be
replaced after a groove was worn
through.
When I was born along with my siblings
my dad was pacing, the floor.

After several false alarms, we finally got to the real day for the event. About 1 P.M., one of the nurses told me to go have lunch because it would be another couple of hours yet. I was a father before I got back. Did they do that just to get me out of the way?
