Depends on where you live. My friend went to the Academy of art in San Francisco, and some of the lead animators were teachers there. Also some of the better students got hired by Pixar and Industrial Light and Magic. If you're not into paying the huge fee's at the Academy, they do offer free tours of the school and the computer lab (the largest on the West coast). If you're in the city take the tour and try to talk to some people. Or you can drive to Emeryville (where Pixar's located) and see if they are hiring a janitor-- Hey it gets your foot in the door!
