when a city mostly stay's underground, or when It blow's up?
take detroit for instance, most of the music from there is EXCELLENT, but It's never blown up; would you rather see Detroit Blow up or stay like it is? (and no, just because they've had sucess with Em, D12, and Slum Village don't mean that theyve blown up)

Angel has a good point... the South was like the most underratted region in like the late 80's & 90's. They had the Geto Boys to Arrested Development to Outkast, the Scarface going solo. After the West Coast & East Coast thing settled it was like both the coasts were dead. Then the South tookover with this commericalized stuff Like Master P & no Limit onto Cash Money. That factor just contributed 2 the stuff 2day.
With that said I'll like a good hip-hop city 2 stay underground. It's the same over here in the Bay. We had great music in the 90's but when we started 2 blow up in the country we started 2 try & get attention by starting the hyphy movement & doing exactly what the South does.

Good question. Although I would like to see deserving artists get the exposure and recognition, I’m afraid if they come “above ground” they will sell out and go commercial. Underground seems like Hip Hop’s best kept secret lol. I just wish things were the way it was in the early 90’s where the “underground quality” artists were more in the mainstream and everyone was happy.
YAY AREA: I agree. Those are good examples.

I prefer them to blow up. I know the guy above me is talking about me because the other day I said I'd like to see Chicago blow up. It's not like you automatically become commercial if blow up, theres just a chance, and I wouldn't have said that about Chicago if I didn't think they have talent. Take New York for example, they started this whole thing. Hip Hop wouldn't have blown up if New York hadn't blown up, and it took them years before they started getting commercial. And its not like every single rapper goes commercial, you still have those who stay true to their roots. I just hate that you've got people making all this great music and there are so many people missing out on it. Thats one of the reasons people listen to the soulja boy and the hurricane chris, they don't know what they're missing out on. And how can you show them what they're missing if they good ones remain "hip hop's best kept secret?" You've got to remember that the music from 10-15 years ago that we call "true hip hop" was at that time considered the "commercial/mainstream". (Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, etc were all getting radio and television play, major recording contracts, and etc. Therefore they were mainstream)

Blow up. When it blows up there is sure to be more bad stuff but there is also going to be more good stuff. Since I don't listen to the bad stuff the result for me is more good stuff than before.
"Look what happened to the ATL," yeah they have a lot of **** at the surface, but if they didn't blow up would groups like Cunninlynguists and artists like Supastition be around? No. A mainstream creates an underground.

even if you keep it underground, theres gonna be some wack rappers there, so if they blow up, then more power to them. when a city blows up, theres bound to be some good artists and some pretty lame artists, you have to take the good with the bad.
