I quess it depends on how thick the walls are. My old down stairs neighbor used to smoke so much that we could smell it in our apt. I had to open the windows alot of the time.
He was quite and calm so no real trouble.

with towels under the door ,the right incense and mop and clean your floors with bleach right after smoking
