There are two shows I'm going to audition for at a local cabaret, but they're my first "real" shows and I'm not sure if there's any certain way I should look or dress? My hair is naturally quite curly but I also straighten sometimes and it looks good... does it even matter how I do my hair? I'm kind of nervous, so any tips would be WONDERFUL! Tips for any aspect of the auditions process. Thanks!

Dress professionally, but in a way that shows your personality. A suit isn't necessary, but you would probably be best in a nice blouse and a skirt. Heels are always recommended for girls!

Wear your hair half up and curly. The half up is so they can see your face, and the curly hair makes you unique and memorable. They know you can straighten curly hair, but it is not always easy to curl straight hair.

If you get a callback, wear the SAME clothes. It helps them to remember you.

If your hair is naturally curly and that's how it is in your headshots then wear it curly. I agree with pulling some of it away from your face (half up). Most females wear a dress or skirt and nice top. You dress 'pretty'. You may also dress to suggest the character you're auditioning for if there is one, but you never dress in costume.

Your headshot can also be a coposite of shots including one of you with straight hair if that's important to you.

good luck,
Marianne

Dress in either dance clothing with your hair, color choices, etc. hinting towards the character you want, but don't dress fully out in it, or just in jeans and a t-shirt. But make sure you look ready to audition, not just lazy. And have an energy to your make up and a bounce in your step. And definitely pull your hair away from your face.

And wear the same outfit at callbacks, of course.
