I'm a thirteen year old female with a mezzo soprano range( i can comfortably hit a high F). I am auditioning for Bye Bye Birdie next Tuesday and I need an audition song. I am looking for a broadway tune, prefferably more happy and peppy, as that is the style of the person i'm auditioning for. I was thinking about maybe doing the female part of Sixteen going on 17 from the sound of music, but maybe not. Any suggestions? I DO NOT want to do something FROM Bye Bye Birde. Thanks in advance!

If you want to sing something from Sound of Music, go with the Lonely Goatherd. It has that wonderful range and it's a showpiece song. I wouldn't necessarilly go with that song either, though. My choice for a strong mezzo would be something from Les Miz "I Dreamed a Dream" (or some-thing like that) or if you want sweet and innocent, you could do the "Castle on a Cloud". For happy, peppy music, you could do "I Cain't Say No" from Oklahoma or one of Ethel Merman's big numbers like "No Business like Show Business" or "You're the Top" from Anything Goes. You can find books of songs for any vocal range at the mall. I wish you luck in your audition. No matter the part you end up with, have fun and enjoy the experience of being in a show. I had so much fun and made a lot of great friends doind shows. Break a leg!

I assume you're auditioning for Kim so I suggest:

Much More – The Fantastics
Sixteen Going On Seventeen - Sound of Music
Matchmaker - Fiddler On The Roof (Chava's part?)
The Trolley Song - Meet Me In St. Louis
Safety In Numbers - The Boyfriend
Always True To You In My Fashion - Kiss Me Kate

good luck!

Have you heard The Fantasticks? The only female in the show is a mezzo-soprano to soprano, and there are some fantastic songs in there--and, they aren't frequently used in auditions!
