I'm from mississippi and have visited southern california and driven through phoenix, so I'm not too acquainted with phoenix. Im 19 about to turn 20...I want to attend school, skateboard, just have fun. Ive found decent places to live with similar rents in san diego and phoenix so I'm just wondering if anyone was in a similar situation to mine and how things fared out along with suggestions, pros/cons.

If you can afford it, SoCal all the way man! I'm not sure where in SoCal you where looking, but unless it was around Riverside County (High Desert), the rents there don't compare to Phoenix. If you board, you'll love it. You'll be stuck inside your apartment all day long in the summer in Phoenix, even some nights because it'll still be 98-105 degrees at 10:00pm. In SoCal you can drive an hour to the beach, and hour to the Mountains/Snow or an hour to the Desert. If I could afford it, I'd move back in a heart beat. Phoenix is great, but SoCal is the Shiznit!

Go tp Phoenix if you like living in an oven 9 months of the year. People fight over parking places under trees so the temp in the car stays under 120.wind only blows a couple months of the year at about 60-80 mph sending sand and dust all over the place destroying paint jobs and windshields.
On the other hand San diego has a higher cost of living and the mean temp there is about 70-75 degrees year round wit h the beautiful pacific right there with lots of fish if ya like that kind of styuff. Decent looking women also!!!!

Southern California. Being near the beaches would be awesome. Phoenix is just too dry and ugly.

Southern California doesn't have similiar rents to Phoenix. Southern California is more expensive. However, if you can afford it, Southern California. There is more to do and better schools to choose from.

There is nothing to do in Phoenix. That has to be the most boring city I ever lived in. It's extremely hot in the summer and has no personality.

While the cost of living is a consideration, the ultimate decider should be the school you attend. At 20 I hope you are referring to college. Pick the college that will give you the best possible education in the field of your choice. That should be more important than in what city it is located.

I lived in phoenix last year and made more money then when i was living in NYC. I loved it and can't wait to go back...I only came back to NYC on a family emergency but when things are better I'm defiantly going back.

Good luck!

I love them both but really most areas of Phx are most cost effective. I would have LOVED to go to college in SoCal & then settle down in Phx area.

If you can go to school in CA, have reasonable rent AND be commute free....go for it. You're young & can worry about big bills later when you're older.
