The patriarchal order of life has been with us since the days of Adam. There are certain matriarchal societies, such a the Iroquois Confederacy and the Cherokee Nations, but as a whole, religion has always been based on the patriarchal order.

matriarchy came before patriarchy because it is was impossible to defintly define a family line through men, women on the other hand gave birth so you KNEW who your mom and grandmom and great grand mom were. Choosing a strong family leader is the only fundamental thing that has to do with triarchery

Matriarchy may be older and therefore more fundamental but the history of the world has been written by men and so the holy feminine has been down played

I can't really think of any matriarchal societies in human history, aside from one or two Native American tribes, so I doubt it is older and more fundamental.

I think egalitarianism was more prevalent in early society. However, earlier matriarchal societies were not uncommon.
