No,anime pays more attention to detail. the drawings are more in deapth. american cartoons are more basic, where amine takes on a more realistic image. Also in reply to the statement someone made about anime being for adults... in actuality american cartoons started out for adults. Even now to this day some of the cartoons that kids watch today have adult jokes to them you just gotta know how to catch them.

Kind of. Anime is a type of cartoon, a cartoon genre, if you will, but it does not have the same meaning as 'cartoon,' as the word that means animated pictures shown on TV or a movie screen. All anime are cartoons, but there are cartoons that aren't anime.
And don't just call anime 'cartoons,' because it pisses the fans off.

No, but almost. Anime falls under cartoons. It's a category there. Anime is Japanese cartoons, while cartoon is general. They're related in the same way a german shepherd is a dog, but a dog isn't a german shepherd.

Yeah-anime is just used for the cartoons from Japan. They're the same thing in essence but anime has a very distinct style.

actually in asia anime is called cartoons and cartoons from america is considered anime
so animation from your homeland is called cartoon. Foreign animation is called anime
