All signs point to the Red Sox resigning Mike Lowell... he has proven to be an important cog in the system offensively and defensively, he is a good teammate and not too old, and the club certainly has the money he will want.

1. Lowell, if they resign him, will be for a two year deal according to all reports. He can do better elsewhere. Unfortunately, Lowell is probably gone. MVP trophy and all.
2. Schilling, if he stays, would be a one year deal. He can get a 2 year deal elsewhere, but might want to stay. I suspect he would love to be the Republican candidate for governor in Massachusetts, but I am insane so ignore me.
3. The Red Sox have 2 club options on Manny for 2009 and 2010. They don't have to do anything but say "stay" and he stays for $20 million per year which might be a lot for an awesome hitter, scary baserunner and fielder.

Yeah, I gotta say, some of the newbie Sox fans need to get educated before posting...making us look bad.
Lowell is the best 3rd base option out there in general, forget that he suits this Sox team perfectly- they should definitely shun A-Rod and re-sign Lowell...I bet he'd take 3 years somewhere around $42 to $45 million, especially if they throw in an option (team or mutual) for a 4th year...that part might be the deal-breaker, but I bet he'd take it.
Schilling they should re-sign for $10-$13 million is he's willing to stick to his one year deal thing...he'd be a middle of the rotation guy, and a hell of a good one, even at his current level. Not to mention the experience he has helping out Buchholz and Lester as young guns in the rotation.
Manny should have a great year and I'd love to see him here as long as Papi (2010 or 2011) to keep that tandem together, but he's so nuts I wouldn't be shocked to hear anything from trading him this year to extending him another 5...
GO SOX!!!

They might resign Lowell; they should try. But 5 years, $80 million for a 34 year old player they didn't even want?? Way too much. Try 3 years at $40 million.
Schilling is finished. He should retire. The Sox would be foolish to toss $5 million at him for 2 years, much less $20 million.
Manny's future, much like his behavior, is unpredictable.

haha...5 years 80 mil? what are you crazy? Darn pink hatters
thats just stupid to give a 39 year old 3rd baseman 16 mil for a year. And curt isn't gonna get 2 years from the sox. A year for 10 or 13 mil will be good.

look at it this way. The mariners signed Ichiro to 100 million and he is 34, and they have yet to make it to the world series, so why not sign lowell as well, he has made it to 3 world series and has three rings to prove it.
