Layaway is nothing new. During the years of the depression( 1930 thru 1938) several local stores would put aside items a customer chose to be picked up at a later date. The customer would make periodic payments until th item was fully paid at which time he would pick up his purchase. This afforded the customer a guarantee that the item he desired would be available.

she could call the store to find out for sure. Walmart as a company is not doing layaway, but maybe that store set up something different based on needs in the community.
