The basic concept of a patent is to protect an invention or process -- to give the people who invented or developed it a competitive advantage of a short term.

If anyone should have patents -- then software should be covered like any other product -- or nobody should have the advantage of patent protection.

But I can't think of a reason to exclude just software and protect every other type of invention.

they should be as valid as any other patent. wouldn't you want the right to protect your "brainchild" from being used without your permission, as software or otherwise??
