Don't do this to your feet. Wearing them longer will gradually get your feet used to them, but it'll do so by misshaping them. The damage caused by 'getting used to' high heels gives a lot of people a lot of foot trouble in later years. Not only will it damage your feet, but your entire skeletal structure is thrown off by heels, so it can even cause knee- and back-pain. If your body hurts it's trying to tell you something, leave the high heels to other people, you may be jealous now but they'll be jealous of you thirty years down the road when you're walking just fine and they're suffering from the damage done in their younger years.

Your friends are right, wearing them more often will make your feet tougher and build callouses where needed so your feet won't hurt so much. However, I also prefer to wear comfy shoes as opposed to high heels, so when I do wear them I stock them full of padding. Most shoe departments will sell pads for your high heels. I recommend these pads called Dancin Feet. You place them right where the balls of your feet are in your shoes and they allowed me to work 4 hours in heels. Also, there are pads that go in the back of your shoe around the heel that keep your heel from slipping out of the back of the shoe. The Dancin Feet pads were by far the best thing that I had tried.

ok, i am a high ( really high ) heels junkie. first thing, make sure your shoes fit. it's most likely that your shoes don't fit and not the height of the heel.
i have a pair of non-platform 5 1/2 inch heels that are like some of the most comfortable shoes i have ever worn. it's usually NOT the height of the heel.
and it sounds corny, but when i first started wearing 5 inch heels, i just wore them around the house for hours and hours. it works.

OK go to like Macy's and get a really good pair that is comfy and fits right. You might not be wearing the right size or the quality of your shoes may be bad. With high heels, you truely do get what you pay for.
I got one pair of heels that were expensive but they feel more comfy than flats!
Then just wear them more often and keep them on longer each time. You will get better each time. Those girls probably wear them to work everyday or wear them out a lot so they are used to them.
Just keep trying and good luck!

Wear them around the house! Before I could never last more than an hour but now I can go all day in them. I would also recommend to put comfy insoles in the heels if they're causing a big problem. If you plan on wearing them all day just make sure they won't cause blisters to your feet. God forbid if you got blood on your shoes! :P

I used to be just like you - barefoot at the ball. Now, I wear heels all the time and no longer have any problems with foot pain because I discovered the secret. Don't buy cheap heels - they aren't made using scientific data! I'm not saying go out and buy a pair worth thousands, just don't buy any pair under $120.00. Also, buy them at a store where the clerk sizes them to your feet, it really makes a big difference. Two years ago I bought a pair of $200.00 black heels (4" spikes), and to this day, my feet don't hurt when I wear them at events where I need to stand for six hours straight! Getting rid of the foot pain is worth every penny...and standing barefoot during a formal event makes you look foolish, and you will end up being remembered for having no class.

There are really comfortable in-sole you can buy made of gel. Also Dr.scholls makes comfotable ones. I f you'd rather just get used to the ones you have walk back and forth in your hallways in them and do calf building excercises. :)

Take time when you shop. Find the most comfortable ones. It will take a couple days to break them in, but after that they should feel just fine.
