It is usually owned by the Catholic Diocese that is associated with the school. If you recall from the Catholic priest sex abuse lawsuit settlements of late, many churches have to auction off land to settle these lawsuits, putting the schools in a precarious position.

In the United States, the Catholic school or parish owns its own property and pays all of its expenses. That is why tuition is paid.

Other countries may have other arrangements.

The catholic church is one of the wealthiest organizations in the world! If they didn't buy the property, it may have been donated by a parishioner. they do get special tax breaks though from your local government with regard to taxes due to their non-profit status.
