Do you actually know the person who gave you the check? Or is one of these stories familiar? http://www.fakechecks.org/prevention.html

You are responsible to them. The writer is responsible to you. If you can find the writer, you can sue the writer for the money. In the meantime, you have to pay the store; it is not their fault the check bounced. If the writer of the check is missing or has no money, you are screwed. You should not have taken their check.

The $1500.00 fee does seem unreasonable. A fee is common and legal, but there may be a limit.

Let me get this straight, YOU cashed the check and recieved the money. Then somebody contacted you about the check bouncing. I'm not understanding how the check cleared and the gave you the money. But, that's why I don't deal with check cashing places. Anyway, you should give the money back that you recieved, but the party that wrote the check is responsible for the bounced check, and the fees (which should not be $1500).

You are responsible to the check cashing store. Whoever wrote you the check is responsible to you.

its up to you to make the check good. then you will need to go to the party who wrote the check to get your money back as far as the fee it sounds very steep . i wouldn't pay it.

$1500. would be illegal here in Canada unless maybe they made you sign something to that effect first ...but still .Maybe you should ask your bank about it .Don't deal with check cashing places anymore!!!
