Usaully I 'm the midst of everything, and have always loved it, but lately I think it quite attractive to let everybody else do all the running around.

Damn, it's like you're my psychic twin!

For years I've been the one to sweat the details -- at my day jobs, in my arts work, and in my personal life. And I'm really weary of doing it. It's discouraging to see others just sit idly by and engage in the mediocrity -- and still get rewarded for it.

So for months now I've been tempted to just become as laid back as everyone else and do "just enough" to get by. And trust me, I hate that I'm thinking that way, but the temptation really is growing.

Oh, and another part of it is politics. For years now I've written to my representatives in Congress and the Senate -- and even Emperor Bush himself -- to lodge complaints against the whole Iraq debacle. And I mean I've written at least once per week, via both physical letters and e-mail. And it's done nothing. So I'm becoming discouraged about that, and want to just give up.

No whining intended, mind you. I'm just growing weary of expending so much energy in various pursuits and getting nowhere.

You have to in order to maintain some semblance of sanity. My way of doing that is to take a week or two backpacking in the High Sierra. No news, no TV, no radio, no contact with the outside world whatsoever. Just me, the marmots, pika, deer, bear, and other assorted critters (wife included).

I never let the world go by, i jump on its back and tackle it to the ground, then I dance on top of its defeated soul
