you could go a different route than drawing actual things that are frightening, by drawing in a way a frightened person might see things. Exagerate shadows, make the lighting dramatic, skew the perspective so things seem larger and more daunting. maybe draw from a perspective looking upwards so the viewer feel small and vulnerable. Also, a lot of times fear comes from being alone, and feeling a lack of control in any given situation, so showing solitary figures could be very effective. Anyways, good luck!

hmm okay lets see if i can describe the image im thinking of: for fear of the dark, have a person standing in a corner, back against the wall, hands trying to grasp the wall, and have the rest of it be black, she's trying extremely hard to stay in the lightest place, away from the dark
