If I could choose where the money went to I would say I would rather they donated money to the local animal shelter. Here all the money goes towards the animals. Recently they exposed that most charities only give a portion of the donations to the actual charity which is as low as 13%. Most of it goes to the Director of the company. And yes I know wages and rent etc are all expeneses and of course they need to cover their costs but they also showed the hotels (five star) they stay in and the expensive chanpagne they order there. They are living the rich life instead of working more for the charity and only keeping what they need to pay expenses and their own reasonable wage. I don't want my money going to someone who spends more money on one day at a hotel than I do in a month to live on.

Presents :) because Christmas is more enjoyable when it's personal... if you yourself want to donate to charity to feel good that is great, but to ask your family members who love you and want to give you gifts to do that would be really impersonal and might upset them.
Most people want to give to the ones they love not to those they do not know... that is just how most people are during the holidays... :) If I wanted to get my sister a nice present and she told me to donate it to a charity in her name, I'd feel kinda put off... I wouldn't mind to donate for my own, but I really would love to get a present for her at christmas time... and I think most people feel that way.
