Ok, let me clarify a bit on the problem.

I brought a new phone, it has a memory card with it (microSD) with preloaded stuff, which i dont need. So, wanting to format it, i decided to make a back up of this stuff onto my computer, ok?

Now, it shows up as a mass storage device, and i can copy some files form it, and some i cant, some of the ones i cant are music and app files.

Normally cards have a protection tab on them to prevent overwriting. But as you are trying to copy files I assume this is to a computer? If you are trying to copy back to the card you need to move the copy protection tab or cover it up with tape. Different cards have different protection methods. Good luck.

You didn't even provide the make and model of the phone and you expect people to answer. Try going into settings and security to see if the card files are password protected. You may have to buy another SIM card and transfer the information via pencil and paper and then re-enter the files then save to the new card. Unless of course you can find the password to unlock the files on the SIM.

Have you tried using BitPim to access the phone? If the phone's OS is running BREW, you'll still encounter the protected file error (sorry, been searching for a way around myself and haven't found it yet either). If the file is protected through your carrier's software to access the phones, give BitPim a shot and see if they can bypass it (unless you are getting the "this file is protected by the vendor" type error).

It's hard to answer your question correctly, because you didn't specify what kind of files you are talking about, or what kind of phone, and where you got the files. If it is Verizon and you purchased music from them, they don't want you copying their music and doing what ever you want. That is why they are "protected". Sorry if this didn't answer your question the way you wanted, but it's the DRM.
