Two words - and they rhyme with Bell Yo.

You don't fool with a classic.

Either Tim Burten or Steven Speilburg could do a great job at it.

I've heard that Burten has wanted to do it for years now, which is a plus.

Although, that's kind of the easy predictable choice for a project like that. Don't you think?

I would like to see M. Night Shamalon try to do it, and have it based on the book, not the simplistic, candy coated, lobotomized MGM version of the story. He's a much better director than either of the two aforementioned directors, in my opinion, and he has a better understanding of suspense, and shock, which I think Oz needs in a movie; badly.

Shamalon could make it both scarey and funny, with rich characterizations, and twists that might surprise you. Shamalon is big on characterizations, and much better at it than Burton. He also has an understanding of how mythologies work.

That's why he would be my first choice.

Tim Burten would do a good job, but I don't think he understands how to rivet an audience to the floor in the same way.

When it comes down to it, I really think it's a matter of taste.

I think all of Tim Burton's movies suck!!

He ruined Willy Wonka! How do you make that movie into a dark comedy?

If he remade the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy would be a cross-dressing transvestite, the munchkins would look like 70's jazz hippies and it would probably end with the wizard being a "unibomber" candidate that tells Dorothy to "get bent!"

I hate "The Wizard of Oz" and I definitely don't want to see a dark version of it!

(Wasn't the awful remake "The Wiz" enough for you people?!)

NO NO NO NO, HELL NO.

The Wizard of Oz is a CLASSIC, I don't care what any of you people say. A remake would be a travesty. If this happens I will NEVER watch another movie EVERY AGAIN.

Sorry, got a little carried away.

Actually, anything that Tim Burton tries to remake nowadays catches my interest >:)

Hey people, take it easy will ya? We all know this dude's style, so if you don't wanna see the remake then don't. Simple as that.

Me, I just have a thing for seeing old things remade in a way that makes it look interesting.

YES! I don't like the original. I like Return to Oz better.
AND I also thought he should re-do these movies too, Tim Burton style:
Alice in Wonderland
To Kill a Mockingbird

That would be awesome. But I do not agree with the ppl who said it should star Johnny Depp. He did ruin Willy Wonka. I never even watched it b/c of all the negatives about it.
Tim Burton ROCKS

YES!!!!

What a wonderful idea. It would be dark and creepy and wonderful and bizarre and beautiful and strange and funky and one of the few DVDs I'd actually consider buying.

Very cool question.
