If so, why?

I'm of the .. "we need the ability, and it's legally the only thing that can be done in my opinion, but thanks.. i'll just stay out of that mess" angle.. I have no interest in a traditional marriage.. (or.. not so traditional) . I've never cared one bit about the event, or the piece of paper you have to pay so much for.. the tax break would be nice..but it complicates everything else. I'm not a Christian, so, don't really need it for myself.. There are so many reasons why we need the RIGHT to it.. and unfortunately I live in one of the states that passed the constitutional ban on anything "similar" to a marriage between same sex partners.. the law on the books before already banned the marriage itself.. but the amendment actually banned companies from allowing benefits to same sex couples, a couple that has been together for 40 years can't have each other on their insurance.. In the case of one partners death, everything goes to some other family member.. in the case of a will the surviving partner could inherit but it is not a family inheritance so you have to pay a large amoung of tax on it.. whereas in a marriage or "legit" family there is no tax on inheritance.

This is about so much more than just the wedding ceremony..

I don't think that it should be the main issue of the LGBT community right now. The main issue should be allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. We are a culture that values military service, there are many of us gay and lesbian veterans, but no recognition of that service. I would like to see an LGBT Army Division kick some Iraqi Insergent/ Al Qaeda butt. Like the 54th Massachusetts Infantry did for blacks in the Civil War. That ought to put a dent in the muslim view that we are inferior. Also, here in the US, fellow citizens would see that we are just as patriotic as anyone straight. Then, we should be allowed to marry.

I'm all for gays being married, but not me. If people want to be miserable and fighting over property, let them. I have no desire to shackle myself. If you mean, "People who think society will implode if gays are allowed to marry" I'm not in that category.

A few of our overly-conservative Republicans fall in this category. They are afraid to be themselves; they are raised and put down pretty much to the point of no repair. They learn to hate themselves and live the "straight" life, unhappy, and vote for anti-gay laws, and they've become everything they never deep down wanted to be.

I highly doubt it but I suppose it is possible since while I know people who are gay and religious, they may feel marriage is meant for a woman and man and not man and man or woman and woman.
