JJ:
I am not an OB, but I can give you basic advice. Candy of any form is not as nutritious as leafy green vegetables, fruit, (cleaned in clean water - no listeria or cholera please!!), and a healthy mix of animal and vegetable proteins. So you would do well to take prenatal vitamins, a lot of clean, healthy, fresh vegetables and fruits - washed but not scrubbed fanatically - in your diet.

You are not just a fuel burner that is incubating life, you are a woman with hormones bouncing around in her body....you will experience mood swings, acute reactions to smells and tastes, and some things just may not look, sound, smell, or taste right anymore. So occasional candy isn't bad, it just isn't optimal for nutrition. But you have to feed your soul, your spirit. No, candy isn't bad on occasion.

Many a man has gone and purchased chocolate milk in the middle of the night (or ice-cream, yogurt, chocolate bars, pickles, etc.) for their pregnant significant others who ran out of their craving the previous day and can't sleep. Hell hath no fury like the pregnant woman with a craving while the "man who did it to me" was sleeping soundly without a care in the world. You bet we go and get the "salve to soothe the savage beast" within our precious spouse.

Pregnancy is a trying time for all involved, the changes in a woman's body are multiple, the changes in a relationship are also multiple. Skittles by the ounce (no more than 12 kilograms weight gain in the 40 weeks for a normal size woman, less if you are heavy, very little more if you are slender) are not bad if they make your heart soar and your S.O. look like a human being. Skittles by the kilo - well, that is asking for gestational diabetes, a small birth weight baby, and other problems.

Enjoy your pregnancy, I am enjoying my wife's when I'm not out running to the store.

Run! Go get those Skittles!

As long as you don't get carried away with indulgences, there is nothing wrong with the occasional splurge. Keep up your healthy diet the rest of the time!

I know someone who developed a sweet tooth during pregnancy and she has a very healthy, bouncing baby now. Don't deprive yourself because your little one can pick up your distress!

Candy isn't bad, as long as it's in moderation. Don't eat a bag of skittles though, eat about a 1/4 of a bag...and don't eat it as your meal!
(Oh, and you did spell it wrong the 2nd time...just FYI)
