Been having a problem with booting PC did clean install with XP pro & SP2. PC is a P-4 with Via board 3 yrs old with newer hard drive. when powering up I get a blank screen about 80% of the time. I then hit the reset button and everything boots normal. This was also occurring under Windows 2000 before upgrade. Any help or ideas ?

Try reseating graphics card and RAM. Before reseating, clean the pins by rubbing with the eraser tip of a pencil. Power ON, press del to enter BIOS. Load fail-safe defaults, save and exit. If problem persists, it could be a cold boot problem that may have to do with early BIOS release. BIOS update may be the cure.

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, there is a hardware problem. Most of these problems can be solved by just opening up the computer and removing the dust . Detailed instructions at http://fixit.in/computerbeep.html

Hey,
You can speed up your pc and get rid of viruses, worms and trojans by cleaning up your register. A good free program is CCleaner. Link here http://bit.ly/1sW1Qk7
It's surely the leader program of its type
Hope it helps.

Hi. It sounds like a marginal Power Supply Unit (PSU). New ones are not too expensive. Just a thought.

I've had this problem before and it turned out to be the memory. If you have a different stick of memory to try on your motherboard, that might do the trick

Time to get a refund on what ever upgrades you did, because it's obviously not working. Time to get a new PC.
