The amount of capital flowing is much much greater than the amount of currency. On the FED wire which handles wire transfers between US financial institutions 500 trillion dollars was transferred in 2006. That is equal to the total US GDP every week

The amount of US currency in circulation is about $800 billion dollars which is less than 1/10 of GDP. Because much of the currency is held in other countries, the US currency probably accounts for half of the currency in the world.
