I live in a council house which I bought myselve. I live on a council estate but don't live off the government. Many of my neighbours are very good and helpful and I wouldn't class them as chavs. So why do people always seem to generalise about those who live on council estates?

Because very generally speaking chav culture is working class culture. Those people most likely to live in council houses are working class - and therefore it may be assumed (which of course is the mother of all ignorance) that those who live in council houses may be more likely to be chavs than those who do not.

However, experience shows me (for one) that you're just as likely to find chavs on a 'middle class' estate than off one.

People generalize because they feel safer stereotyping and putting people intoboxes, life is easier that way.
It is simpler for people to say that all people who live on council estates are 'chavs' than to comment on the wide diversity of social class on council estates.

There are some very "well-heeled" chavs round by where I live. They have very well off families, so it isn't just council estate kids that are chavs.

Do you really care what some sudo middle class prat things? If they can use that tired old stereotype to judge people they are not worth bothering with. In this day and age I’m proud of the fact that I’m a homeowner and should be to.
