You don't need to fertilize them at all. At well established and fully grown crepe myrtle needs nothing at all. From experience, these plants are impossible to kill and I know because I've been trying to kill one for 5 years. Anyhow, Crepe myrtles are one of those beautiful plants that give you years and years of beauty and require nothing in the way of human care. However, if you plan on turning it into a tree then you will need to prune it each Spring.
Good Luck

keep the lawn fertilizer away from them, please.... too much nitrogen and it will give you lots of leaves but fewer flowers.... fertilize with a 'bloom food' like 5-10-5 just before the leaves come out in spring.... if you're in a warm climate zone and do the pruning to get a second bloom, fertilize again after the pruning....

actually, you don't really need to fertilize at all after the crepe is mature... a little compost as a top dressing would be dandy and enuff.... but those young plants can use a little help getting started when it's bloom time....

In the spring start out with a high nitrogen fert.. This will feed the top growth which will set the flowers in the summer. Then every six weeks feed with a good balanced fert. ( 20-20-20)
Twice a year use Humic acid ( www.enviromateinc.com ) for 72 natural minerals ... Wash twice a summer with orange oil or mint Listerine.
