ok, so who do you think is better? i personally like R.E.M.better, because i can really only tolerate U2 up until the Joshua Tree. everything else after that is blah. I like most Of R.E.M.s music besides Around the Sun, which i thought was rather boring. i think most of U2s recent music all sounds the same, you know? so, time for your opinions!

I don't know what it is, but I've always hated U2. I can't really explain it, but their music just sounds fake, or rather formulated. REM is sometimes boring, but still better than U2. Its even worse that everyone just seems to adore U2. I don't really like bono either, and I don't know if thats because i don't like U2, or if I don't like U2 because of bono.

However, i will say the recent episode of southpark, where they made fun of bono, was hilarious.
"No matter what he does, he's still a piece of crap."
Oh southpark...

Guess You can tell which band I like better. Bono is five times the singer of Micheal Stipe and The Edge is 50 times more talented than R.E.M.'s guitarist.

Over the long haul, U2.

R.E.M. did a lot of early stuff I didn't like because of the "lo-fi" production that buried Stipe's voice and they've been hit and miss lately (Liked "Up" but not "Lift" and "Around the Sun" was so-so).

The only U2 albums I could really do without are OCTOBER and RATTLE AND HUM.

I think U2 is better. Throughout the years, they have changed their sound to be more likable to the current audience. It is very difficult for most bands to do this and REM has not done this. U2 changes with the times and their record sales more than speak out for them.

U2 has more emotional songs that talk about real issues. i really dont know much about rem ive only heard that end of the world song and that andy kauffman song. U2 has sold a lot more albums though and they prolly put on a better show.

I'm not wild about either one of them but if given a choice, I would rather listen to REM. I've always had a weird ambivalence towards U2. I won't go out of my way to change the station when one of their songs comes on but I don't buy their CDs either.
