Is that why my nitrites and nitrates are high?

First of all it depends on what size your tank is, to determine if you're overstocked or not
But most likely, i assume this is a pretty new setup, so that means your tank is going throught he nitrogen cycle, otherwise you wouldn't see any nitrite readings

in an established tank your nitrites and ammonia are suppose to be at 0, and your nitrates below 20ppm

Hope that helps
Good luck

it could be ,what size tank do you have?how often do you feed the fish over feeding can cause these levels to rise.
do you have live plants in the tank decaying plants can cause high nitrite levels.
nitrate could be a tap water problem have you checked the nitrate in your tap water as it could be high and be giving you a high reading in your tank
