I heard, I think on Martha Stewart, that there's a bee virus running around and she lost a couple of hives because of it.

I agree we need them. My grandpa was a bee man in Washington state, used to sell to Sue Bee. He'd get stung every day, and just ignore it--he was used to it. Then he got stung by a yellow jacket and almost died of an allergic reaction. Strange, huh?

Research into colony collapse disorder has shown that organic hives do not exhibit CCD. Part of the reasoning is that organic hives do not get moved around like farmed hives. It's thought that constant movement stresses out the bees, making them more susceptible to viruses and fungi that are known to be deadly to bees.

I think scientists are having a hard time figuring it out. However, it appears to be contagious.

They are now claiming it to be a fungus that is killing them. Europe has had this problem for a while now we have it.
