Meteorically speaking.
No!
The of course one may be being factitious.

No. Some people answer as honestly as they can. So they don't get the metaphor. Not everyone is metaphorically inclined, remember you are a writer and can use words to mean different things. Some people read words and take them exactly for what they mean.
I guess that sometimes it would be sad if people couldn't look deeper than the surface. A book wouldn't be any good if you didn't. One has to open themselves up to different levels of thinking to understand things metaphorically.

Absolutely not. It does not matter if I never did have first hand experience of the metaphorical question, It matters that someone out there related to the question . I connected.

I will be able to relate to the answer, and feel the impact of the question.

For all I know it was also only a metaphorical answer and the answerer never experienced that answer.

But as he/she was typing the answer, he/she would have felt and experienced the "what if"...........

You can say it was a creative, mind bonding experience.

No I don't feel sorry for people who answer metaphorical questions with literal answers.

I'm one of the people you may feel sorry for. I've often been in the position of having somebody tell me "that was a metaphor, dummy" or something equivalent.

Spare me the pity, though. There are compensations to be found in my strange neuronal wiring.

The line between Metaphorical and Literal can be very thin.

My experience on YA.

I actually feel a little amused and envious. I'm amused that they take a metaphorical question too seriously and envious that they are knowledgeable enough to provide the facts.

Nope.
If you aren't prepared for the answer then don't bother with the question.
On a site like this you are going to get a whole slew of different answers and if you aren't prepared for that then don't pose the question.
Leave your sympathy at the P.C. keyboard untouched.

A good comparison is the Bible.
It is meant to be allegorical and people take it literally all the time.

I feel more frustration than pity. Simply because I can't believe that they are that ignorant.
But I have been proven wrong.

No, I feel sorry for myself for answering at all. How is one to judge a "metaphorical" question when it could easily be taken the other way?

They probably don't have open enough minds and can't "think outside the box." Yes I feel sorry that they can't take things a step further than the facts, but I hope they have fun boring lives.
