I really wanted to use my parents names Mary and Alan as middle names for my baby. I still do not know if I am having a boy or girl, but the names I have come up with are:

Kaiya Mary Daveigh (Kaiya means forgiveness my parents arent thrilled im pregnant... and Ive always loved the name Daveigh, I think Davey would be a cute nickname)

and Im stuck between Dominick Alan or Donovan Alan.

Not that race matters but the baby will be mixed (black and white) I always think mixed children have such a unique look and I think that deserves unique names.

I like the idea of using your parents' names in there, but I'm not liking Kaiya at all. I wouldn't want to have to explain to your beautiful girl one day that you named her 'forgiveness' because your parents didn't want a grandbaby. That's sad. I also don't like the idea of two middle names. How about Davina Mary? Davina means "beloved", which is a much more positive meaning for your child. Plus, you can nickname her Davey.

I like Donovan a lot more than Dominick. Donovan has the nickname Van, which I like a lot. I don't care for Dominic much, no particular reason, though.

And seriously, I can't believe how rude people are being! Race doesn't matter, period. My fiance is Filipino, and our kids are going to be much darker skinned than me. Doesn't matter! Your family will come around when they meet their grandchild; babies bring families together. They might actually be surprised by the fact you're still honoring them even when they're being less than supportive about the whole thing.

Congratulations! Every child is unique, and certainly every child deserves a special name. But there's such a thing as an over-the-top name that burdens, rather than benefits, your precious little one.

I think Kaiya is a much stronger name if you use Kaia or Kaya. The "ai" is confusing.

Honoring your parents is always nice, and Kaia Mary is a great name.

But sticking in the Daveigh is a bit much. If you'd like to call her Davy, name her Davina. Then she can have that cute nickname, as well as an unusual and elegant given name. While there are exceptions I'm sure, virtually no one is known by their third name - it's baffling to other kids, teachers and even, I think, to the child herself.

Give her the first name you love - Kaia and Davina are both great choices, but if you're really set on Davy, go with Davina.

Now I *love* the boy's names you've chosen. I'd take Donovan over Dominick, but ask me again tomorrow and I might have a different opinion. They're both great.

I like Kaiya Mary without the Daveigh. And Donovan Alan sounds cute but Dominick Alan sounds abit more normal.

An opinion from a mom and grandma ...
If your naming your child Kaiya ( forgiveness) because as you stated your parents aren't happy about the pregnancy ... DON'T.
Think ahead when you explain to your daughter what her name means ( and she will want to know why you named her that). Imagine the quilt feelings you will pass on to your daughter. I would omit the name Kaiya and just name her Mary Daveigh or Maria Daveigh.

I do like Dominick Alan more then Donovan.

I think Kaiya is beautiful and all together Kaiya Mary Daveigh fows nicely.

I like both Dominick and Donovan although they are not that unique these days. When shortened to possible nicknames I like Dom better than Don. They both do flow well with Alan.

what about Drayson Alan, if you like D names and Dray is a pretty cool nickname.

I agree with you that mixed race kids should have unique names. My brother's wife is black and her brother married a (very) white English woman. kids names are Xander Tate, Tallara Jazz, Javier Marc, Darrion Kade, Shawnica Eve, Chardae Rose, Tori Elise and Christian Derick

hope this helps

Congratulations on the good news.

I personally like your girls name (Kaiya Mary Daveigh), and out of the two boys names, like Dominick Alan the most.

Good luck!

Kaiya is a very pretty name for a girl.
I like Donovan for a boy...

What about naming the boy Daveigh,or Davlee and calling him Dave or Davey...that would be unique...

God Bless you & your little ones... Your parents will come around...

I really love the name Alan, but I don't like Dominick or Donovan. If I had to choose one, I would choose Donovan though.
Kaiya Mary is great, but I'm not so sure about Daveigh.
