and tree-like ice forms from it? Im not too sure if im describing it right but i forgot the name of it. thunder makes the sand form branch-like shaped ice or something like that...

The thunder is just the sound, lightning (or a thunderbolt) is what strikes the ground. When it does, it is simply called a ground strike. The sand it sometimes fuses together is called a fulgurite. It's actually a form of glass, not ice.
