If so, why? What proof do you have? What do you think the afterlife is like? Is it different for different people i.e. hell for sinfull people and heaven for good people, or does everyone get the same treatment?

If not, why not? What proof do you have? Do you think we are reborn? Do you think we just cease to exist entirely?

Thank you!

By proof I mean, what made you sure that there is/isn't one. Did a book that is important to your religion say that it was so? I don't mean scientific proof, though if anyone felt that the reason they believe that there is or isn't an afterlife had scientific proof I'd be happy to read it.

I understand what you mean Jayne. I didn't mean that you HAVE to have proof or anything, I was just wondering becuase I know some people believe that they have absolute proof of it and some people don't, so I was just looking for peoples'. In a way I guess you could say that your proof is the way you feel, but it's not technically the definition of proof.

To be honest, i question whether proof is an actual opinion rather than a fact. So using proof to justify an answer to a question cannot be so. However, I believe in the afterlife, but i do not have prove, I haven't been taught it etc. I just feel, that there is, it's rather confusing to say. Almost like you believe but you cannot reason why you believe it.
It is a matter of what we deeply feel and want out of this world and then next

Yes, I believe in an after life but more importantly I believe in the life of the present moment. The present moment is all you ever have. If you believe in eternity then eternity is experienced in the now. The next moment is the after life. The next moment is determined by what you think, believe, speak and do in this moment and all previous moments.

New thoughts will purify your mind and clean your body. Then move together to paint an endless story.

But for your question... What you really asked is what happens to individual consciousness when the body breaks downs and ceases to function? Is there any proof that the consciousness continues after the body stops functioning?

Funny you should ask that today. One of my close friends related the following story to me. He is a professional, educated man not at all prone to superstition.

He was friendly with an older man named Jim in our church. The church disbanded some years ago and my friend Jerry had not seen Jim in over 2 years. Last Thursday morning just before he woke, Jerry had a dream that seems so real. Jim came to him to tell him goodbye. He said he was on his way and everything was all right. Jim told Jerry he would see him in heaven. Jerry woke up startled and told his wife about his dream, but discounted it as just a vivid dream.

Later that day Jim's son found his dad in his home. Jim passed away Thursday morning but was not found until Thursday afternoon. There is no way Jerry could have known, but he did.

This is not the only first hand account I have had of such things.

I am sure there are many others with similar tales.

What happens exactly when we die? That my friend, is one of life's beautiful mysteries. We may have an idea but no one knows. Kind of like God... we may have an idea who and what he is... but no one knows completely. Being reborn is a possibility, a life of spirit is possible, re-incarnation is possible. Everyone has their own beliefs, but again, no one knows.

In terms of judging others, this I do not do... All I see is a loving merciful God that shines all around me. It is not my place to judge any mans heart or spiritual condition as it relates to God. That is between him and God.

Blessings and peace to all,
All in all,
B

A question that has plagued us for ages.

The closest thing I've found to scientific proof is a book called "Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation" by Ian Stevenson. It's as scientific as one can get, check it out.

Proof? What's that? More "scientific" evidence? You do know, don't you, that the so-called "scientific method" comes up with a "theory", then goes about looking for "evidence" or "proof" to confirm their "theory"?
Yes, I believe in afterlife; for the simple reason, all my ancestors did, even though they all had a different notion about it. And, yes, the good will be rewarded, the evil will suffer.

Do consider reading "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton. It is about the best book I've read on the subject of "what happens."
"The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com is another good book.
"Education Begins before Birth," O. M. Aivanhov,
"Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet,
"Babies Remember Birth," David Chamberlain, Ph.D.,
"Life before Life," Jim Tucker, Ph.D.,
"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck (great book),
"The Great Divorce," C. S. Lewis (novella),
"The Big Book of Near-Death Experiences," Atwater, http://www.iands.org and
"Extraordinary Knowing," Elizabeth Mayer, Ph.D.,
are all worth reading.

Http://www.tiller.org and http://www.coasttocoastam.com radio are also of interest.

cordially,

There is no proof for any of it. That is why we have so many different religions, i.e., belief systems.

If any of them could be proven, it wouldn't require faith.

Even the so called "after death" experiences, where people come back, differ greatly.

So, evaluate your choices. Choose wisely.

I don't think there is an afterlife.

If there was one, there certainly wouldn't be a "hell" or the like. A 'real' god... one wise and powerful enough to make this universe wouldn't be so ignorant and powerless as to let people slip into eternal punishment for finite "crimes".

I believe in reincarnation, so obviously there is an afterlife. No, I do not need Proof.

There is no afterlife, when you die, you die. Get over it!
the afterlife was created to give comfort to people whose love one passed away, but added hell to keep people in the religion!

I am already in heaven. I will leave the results of my afterlife for when that time comes.
