for life, once they have been nominated and confirmed ...... I don't even know if they have rules for removing a Supreme Court justice due to incompetence, Alzheimers, etc... they just decide to step down, or die

They are put in for there terms for life, but they can be impeached, and is only form of government office that can be impeached other then the president. And they can retire whenever they like or if they just die.
