I would restrict my answer to the specific point covered by you. Yes, I did like the performance of Tommy who really passed through a cataclysmic experience and came out of it. However, while I could understand Tommy's shock after witnessing the atrocity I did not appreciate the further course of events which finally brings him out of the stupor.I would have appreciated a character who nurses the grievance till his adulthood and reeks revenge on his stepfather and the mocking mother.
I am from India brought up in the shadow of workds like Enoch Orden and Odessesyus. As you know Enock Order, when he sees his wife with his friend quitely withdraws and melts into the crowd.I would have loved Tommy's father to follow Enoch Orden with a slight change of his taking away Tommy with him and the two making their lives.I could not appreciate the violent reactions of his mother and her new lover to the coming back of Tommy's father. Well,USA was not an old oriental country for such a reaction. And I am sure had they explained the background of their association Tommy's father could have understoood. He would have excused them and only asked for permission to take Tommy with him. The matter was unncesssarily made a tragedy when it could been held out as an ideal response to a given situation twisting talels to rouse emotions.

I remember this well! Elton John, who competed with Tommy, on the pinball machines! That was an awesome scene! Remember his heels? Oh my word! I have NO clue how he stood in them! LOL
This was the frist time I knew that Ann Margaret, could not sing at all! lol Here she was with great musicians and when she sang....awwwwwwwww! lol
My favorite part...."I'm Free"...where he broke through the silent world!! That was a fantastic scene!!
Thanks for the memory as I have not thought about this musical in years!!

I loved "Tommy" I saw the play, the movie, own the album and the movie. I felt so sorry for the Tommy and the years of pain he went through. His cousin was not a nice boy!

yep i remember it well - went and saw it when it came out in the theater-had a little smoke on the way
i actually have it on vhs - i saw it at a store and absolutely had to have it
still drag it out once in a while and watch it.
my son thought it was stupid and i told him he had no imagination
guess i'll have to drag it out again and watch it now that you have brought it up
think it was then that i became such a fanatic about elton john - have every thing he has ever recorded
saw him in concert on 9/11/84 - best i have ever seen !!!!!!

I love the movie and the stage presentation. I've seen the movie a zillion times, and I saw it on stage way back in the early 70s.
