Nirvana - captured a band at their peak and a man at the end of his road

The best performance was the very first by Paul McCartney which was a true unplugged performance using purely acoustic instruments micd up which meant that the band had to stay put as they were performing. At most unplugged shows the artists have cheated and used plugged in instruments. I'd liked to have seen Led Zeppelin do an unplugged show as their acoustic side is often overlooked.
I'd also like to see Oasis do a proper unplugged show cos it would really show how crap they really are.

Alice in Chains because they are just amazing. The AiC Unplugged is way better than the Nirvana one. I bet no one can give me one legitimate reason why the Nirvana Unplugged is better than AiC Unplugged.

Present band- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Past Band- The Who

From a personal perspective, I will always side with Kiss' Unplugged. It was a magical moment for a long time Kiss fan. If we put that one aside, my favorite single performance would be Great White's version of "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" on a show they shared with Damn Yankees back in '88 or '89. Besides Kiss, my favorite complete shows were Soul Asylum's and Aerosmith's.

I think my favorite unplugged performance has to be Alice in chains... totally amazing!!
Past band would probably be Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhodes.
I think for a current band, it would be funny if they had someone like AC/DC on there... could you imagine Angus Young doing his schoolboy routine with an acoustic guitar?!?!?

I thought Pearl Jam was amazing. I also really liked LL Cool J - the Unplugged format brings rap to a whole new level.

If I could see any band do a show now it would be Incubus - the funk elements in their songs would be interesting to experience without being plugged in.

Nirvana. It was pure and honest. It wasn't someone trying be be "unplugged". It was in your face raw and edgy with such a human quality to it.

I would have loved to have seen The Beatles or John Lennon unplugged! Wow...for once actually interacting with the audience!

(Bet you thought I was going to say QUEEN! Too much energy to be unplugged. When I saw Freddie perform he usually had to be hot and sweaty and shirtless!)

in answer to your headline question: undoubably nirvana. i don't believe this answer needs much of an explanation. a past band i would have like to see perform would be the talking heads. if that is what this question was looking for. if not i would like to have seen ll cool j's unplugged. he had a massive amount of energy. a current band that i feel would be good for unplugged would definately be weezer. they write such amazing songs that are excellent acoustic or plugged in. plus, they have incredible stage presence.

Stevie Ray Vaughan gave one of his most stunning performances ever when he played some of his classics on a 12-string guitar. It brought a raw edge to his songs.

Current bands, I don't know. I'm not to interested in today's popular music.
