For the past two years, I have played basketball for the school varsity and the thing is that I never wanted to. I always did this for other people, and because it made them happy. Well this year I decided that I wasn't going to play and of course everyone is adding their two cents in. And some even take it a little far.
But now, my girlfriend, who i love dearly has started to talk to me about it and making me feel bad. I mean she is the one person i want to please more than anything and she is making me feel really really crappy about not playing. I mean, it's like im her hugest dissapointment now, and i hate that.
What should I do?
I mean, i have been severely injured and could get paralyzed if i get hit hard enough, and its just the spirit for basketball has been long since gone, and i have no want to play.
God Bless.

I can't believe that your girlfriend knowing that you have been severely injured and could get paralyzed still wants you to take the risk! Well I think she just wants to bask in the lime light of being the hero's girlfriend! My sincere advice is for you not to take the risk! No matter what!!!

I applaud you for taking a stand in YOUR decision not to play basketball. If you have shared the information regarding the seriousness of your injury with the possibility of being paralyzed with your friends and they are still giving you a hard time, you need to kick those "friends" to the curb.....Because no real friend wants you to be hurt. As for your girlfriend, you might want to take another look at your relationship with a woman who would rather you play ball, knowing that there is a GREAT chance you could be seriously hurt (paralyzed). Ask her if she will stick by your side if you did get injured to the point of being paralyzed? And please realize and understand that no woman or friend if worth you putting your health at risk...
God Bless you too

You should do what makes you happy, not what other people want. Its you that you have to look at every morning when you get up and look in the mirror. Yes making other people happy is always a good thing, but not if its going to make you miserable doing it.
And the GF...not dissing her, but from what you said, it sounds like she may be dating you because you were a "Jock"...if she really does care about you, then she will see how sad it makes you to play basketball when your heart and mind is somewhere else.
Good luck with your decision, and remeber that you can never make everyone happy, and there comes a time when you have to make yourself happy, and care less what other people say or think!!!

A girlfriend is meant to understand and stick by her man's side. u say ur injured and u culd get paralyzed!!! i mean, isnt that enough 2 scare her??? if u dont like it, dont do it. u can impress ur gf in million other ways. itz pointless if u continue 2 play to impress her and get urself badly injured. Make her understand. If she loves u dearly she'll definitely understand! Good luck!

Your playing to please other people not a good move! Your girlfriend wants to to continue even though you could be badly injured...if shes not gonna stick around if you stop playing do you really think she'll be there if things go wrong???
Sounds like time to find out if people are supporting you for the right reasons!!
Good luck

If you're doing it for others, I would get out of it. I mean, is it really worth getting paralyzed just to make your girlfriend smile? Haha, I mean.. I can't believe you've done this for two years without loving it. You should find something you LOVE to do and then once your girlfriend and others see you love that particular sport, they are bound to come around and love watch and support you.
You can't please everyone, but you can please yourself. So do what's in your best interest, if you hate it.. quit.
Goodluck!

Chris,
You sound like a womderful caring young man.
First of all I admire you for making a decision that you wanted to do and not doing things for others and to please others. It is not a wise thing to start doing, you will the rest of your lifeand soon find that your life is ont he back burner.
This young lady sounds nice, but not possible the one for you if she is upset about this. just let her know that you had to do what you felt was right for you.
best wishes

No one who cared about you would want you to do anything that could injure you. No one who cared about you would want you to do something that made you unhappy. You need to do what you feel is right. I think you have made the right decision.

I think you should do what makes you happy....People should really back off and let you do what you want
Don't let your girlfriend make you feel bad for your choices....She'll get over it and so will everyone else

Never do something to please others, even if it's your girlfriend. If she loves you, she will understand that it's better you chose what makes you happy. If you're happy, then she will be happy too (hopefully) Pursue your dreams and no one elses.
