I would go with the traditional way of spelling it. I think it's pretty and old fashioned names are very big now anyways.

Old-fashioned names are hot: Ava, Charlotte, Isabella, Rose, Grace, Olivia, Emma. None of those were around back when our parents were naming us in the 60s, 70s and 80s, unless you count our grandmothers. :)
Today, many parents are going farther - Hazel, Rosemary, Ivy, Esther and Clara are just as likely to be toddlers as senior citizens.
Carolyn, or even better, Caroline, logically fits into this trend. Plus, it's a classic name. It's tough to argue with naming your daughter Elizabeth or Katherine, and Caroline is right up there - another elegant, timeless name.
Caralyn, on the other hand, smacks of the rather trashy trend of Kaylyn, Kailee, Kyleigh and so on that is all the rage right now.
While Caroline or Carolyn could be any age - 3 months, 30 years and so on - Caralyn will almost certainly be a child of the early 21st century. Trapped by her kreeatif name, and stuck with a moniker that doesn't mature are she does.
I suppose sometime in 2035, I might find myself with a financial advisor and a doctor named Caralyn or Rileigh, Hailee or Maicee, Skyye or Maddasyn, but I find that unappealing.
Caroline? I'd trust Caroline with my money or my life.

Carolyn is a beautiful name. The thing about "old fashioned" or classic names is that they don't go out of style. There's no need to change something that's considered a classic.
According to SSA.gov Carolyn was ranked #517 in 2006, hardly an overused name; however, the variant form Caroline was ranked at #89 (that name may be something to think about if you're wanting something a little more "mainstream").
If you're set on the name Carolyn, I definitely would not change the spelling. It would take away all of the class and appeal of the original name Carolyn.
Nice choice. Good luck.

If you plan on abbriviating it, Caralyn is far better. "Cara" is such a cute name. =D
But if you plan on calling her Cara/olyn, not somethign shorter, I'd probably go with the old fashioned way. Persoanlly, I think it looks a tad bit better, and cute older names are coming back. Also, people will most likely spell "Caralyn" "Carolyn" if they don't personally know you daughter. My name is spelled Emmalee, but everyone spells it Emily. It kind of gets obnoxious, but it's all going to be up to you in the end.

One name I see use a lot is Madison it is a beautiful name but it is use a lot my step-daughter name is Madison my friends daughter is Madison and a co-workers daughter is Madison. So you see if you choose you use an old fashion name that you like that is you business. Carolyn is a beautiful name She is your little girl you name her what you want. After all you will be calling that name for the rest of your life. By the way I named my daughter Staci Elizabeth. Good luck to you !

I think it's fine spelt Carolyn. Sometimes people try to spell names in a unique way (like Cameron=Kamerenn) and it just ends up looking desperate and weird. In my opinion, Carolyn is not an old-fashioned name and it's spelt fine just the way it is.

I hear a lot of Carolyn and Caroline's these days. Spell it the traditional way. Spelling a traditional name wrong just makes people wonder if you knew how to spell - or if you had a thing for the name Cara.

I like Caralyn and Carolyn.. both of them are nice.
If you go with Caralyn you'd be changing the whole name... not the spelling they are pronounced differently ( Im sure you already know this)
