As you may know, there are beneficial & maleficent planets, strong & weak houses as well as signs. In the case of the charts (of 2 different people), I would have to say that an opposition is probably stronger and/or more maleficent (in terms of compatibility...if this is what I think you're asking / looking for, oui?). If your sun opposes his sun, that could be a bad thing. However, if your sun opposes his moon, that could be a better thing. But it depends very much on the signs, planets and the houses that are involved.
As you know, Astrology is much more complicated than just sun signs. This is why a lot of time and effort should go into the careful study of astrology before anyone tries to use it for anything other than simple boyfriend/girlfriend compatibility.
I can tell from some of your answers on the subject that you already have quite a grasp and a good deal of knowledge of astrology. Keep reading and observing people and you'll be amazed at how true this pseudo science really is.

In my own chart, I"ve got a few of both. They're all powerful in their own ways, really. Or at least my experience of them is. And sometimes the looser conjuctions actually seem to be more powerful than the tight ones, especially when transiting planets come into play. For example, I have jupiter loosely conj. moon, loosely conj. my desc in aquarius in the 6th. The second anything transits jupiter, it sets of a chain reaction through the 6th and 7th houses in my chart, plus the ascendant, and then consequently through anything that my asc. aspects. Those transits seem to last forever, because the conjunctions are looser, so it takes longer to get through, and there are just so many different elements at play within them. The tight conjunctions are powerful in a different way. The energy of the planets (or angles or whatever) involved is fused, so essentially the two (or more) planets are expressing themselves as one. Case in point, my natal sun conj. neptune (within a degree). Neptune is supposed to be a generational influence, so much so that astrologers don't even really do individual interpretations of the planet in an analysis of a person's birthchart, but I've got to say having it conjuct my natal sun (which with leo rising is the ruling planet of my chart) it sure feels personal to me.
As far as oppositions go, I suppose the two main ones in my chart would be mars oppo uranus and saturn oppo north node. Now, the saturn one probably wouldn't be that big of a deal if saturn wasn't in cancer and if it wasn't also the focal point of my yod. The mars/uranus oppo I actually kind of enjoy. 9th and the 3rd. Philosophy and communication. I come up with some crazy ideas due to that one, and it can make my temper somewhat unpredictable (which is the part of this aspect that I really don't enjoy, plus mars is in aries, so...well you get the picture)but mostly it's other people that have a problem with this one, not me.
As far as conj. vs. oppo. in synastry and composite charts, the conjunctions are the aspects that are easy to deal with, and so after time can be taken for granted. The oppositions, however, need to be worked on, and give a spark to the relationship, so I'd say that in this case, oppo would probably be stronger.

An opposition is not as strong as a square to a planet. Oppositions tend to see-saw back and forth but a square is a break or make aspect. A conjuction is the position of two planets near each other, usually positive unless there are other planets involved. I would rather have a conjunction than an opposition. For example, Sun in one chart conjunct Jupiter in another has more potential than a Sun in Sagittarius in opposition to a Sun in Gemini. They don't see eye-to-eye and have different ways of doing things as they are polar opposites. Hope this answers your question.

I think the oppostion stronger. I have 3 planets opposing Pluto and I am intense with a fairly good desire for revenge. Since they are in fixed signs it makes it worse. The conjunctions are nice, moon conjunct mercury and venus and the sun. People say I am either there or not there at all.

The one on the chart that is closest to exact. An opposition make one use the planets involved, to develop thinking and communication skills and processes ideas. A conjunction uses the planets involved to regulate, how we perform in action or in dramatic or energy filled situations.

Both. The conjunction and the opposicion have an equally powerful effect on the individual depending on the planet's placements by house ,sign and degree.
