Your application is about more than just your GPA. Have you taken classes that are challenging? What about your extracurricular activities? Make sure that your SAT scores are pretty competitive (there are some great preparation materials out there). Make sure to have a great essay -don't be proud or shy with it get lots of input and edit, edit, edit...

Here are some useful programs to sharpen your SAT skills:

P.S. I got into Texas A&M with a 2.4 GPA

There are many schools that will still take you with a 2.7 GPA. The easiest way to get into the college of your choice is to get your associates degree at a community college in your area. You'll be able to get into far many more schools, and gives you two more years to raise your grades, save your money, change your mind about your major, etc. I had a 2.9 and went straight into a state university. I spent tons more money and had a hard time getting into different programs because of grades. I know the last thing you want to do after high school is stay around town, but I recommend it.

It's great that you're committed to pulling your grades up. Remember an EDUCATION is the one thing NO one can take away from you. It makes a difference what grade you are now, how much impact you can/will have on your GPA, and you don't say. Look at the websites of the schools you're interested in, and they tell what their admission requirements are, and what GPA an average student has. If it's 3.8-4.0, they you need to look elsewhere. Many state schools have more flexible admission standards. The other thing for college admission is your SAT and//or ACT score. In addition to pulling up your grades, do a test prep class to prepare you for the test. Usually they offer reasonably priced ones at your school, and then tutoring places have many more expensive options. There are also online modules and prep books if you are self-motivated and learn best that way. Be prepared to explain any discrepancy between your GPA and your ACT/SAT scores in your application essays. A good essay can get a "borderline" student (in terms of stated admission standards) into a school.

Depends on what other qualifications you have. I had a 2.9 in high school, but I'm a very good writer and I had a great writing portfolio, and did well on my writing SAT II's, and I got into one of the top 30 schools in the country. So work on your test scores and your GPA.

you might do better at a community college for the first 2 yrs - smaller classes - a lot cheaper also - then apply/transfer to a 4 yr college after 2 yrs - just make sure all classes you would take at comm college would be accepted by 4yr schools

um before you apply at any schools and get rejected, you are going to have to pull up your GPA. 2.7 isnt awful but unless you are the next T.O. and you are going to get a full ride from sports, you wont be able to get into those schools. Sorry, just the facts. Keep working harder, you can do it.

You won't get into top notch colleges with a 2.7.

Hopefully, you can do well on the ACT or SAT (whichever those universites require). That will help you a lot. :)
