Most host servers provide a cgi background monitoring program as part of the site. It tells who went where (using their IP address) and when. The owner of the site accesses it through either their FTP client or through a webpage address. This answer does not include the free sites one gets with internet access providers. One can also add a monitoring cgi program as well. such as ipstat: http://www.ipstat.com/

Most well count visitor, only some of these counters well figure out where the visitor is from (what country). So you would have to look around for that type of code.
