My dad's best friend was honorably discharged from the army in 1976. He fought in the Vietnam war between the years of 1972-1974. He complains everyday, because his monthly checks from the government have been cut and creates hardships for him. GWB did cut VA benefits.

Yes, and a number of other things. Look at what the administration is doing to the VA budget. Creates more veterans every day and reduces the ability of the VA to help them. I see it every day where I work.

Yea, Bush cut the VA budget from:
46 billion in 2001, to
88 billion in 2007.
some cut !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do people post questions like these, without checking the facts first.
Some facts for everyone:
1. You read, the president closed a VA hospital...gasp !!!!
But you didn't read, it was closed, because it only had a 10% occupancy rate.
All administration's close VA hospitals, they have no choice, the demographics of where the veterans live, is ever changing.
There is not much reason to keep a 110 bed VA hospital open, when they only have 10 patients.
Generally they open several clinics, when they close hospitals. And then make arrangements with civilian hospitals for long term care.
2. or you read, the president cut this specific area in funding,
But you don't read, that discreationary funding was increased .
Or that the area being cut, was cut because the VA administrators, decided they needed to spend money else where to deliver better care.
We need to stop the blame game, where people look deep inside budgets, to find a single area, out of thosands that might have been cut, then they use it to say the whole budget was cut.
More veterans have access to the VA health care system now, than at any time in history.
Only in the last 10 years, have veterans without service connected injuries or illiness's been able to seek care at the VA.

Well, I cannot stand GWB, however, my benefits from the VA have not been cut, and I don't know any others that have been cut, of course the guys I know are not Vietnam vets but instead, Iraq era vets, so I'm not sure who's benefits have been cut.

I do not feel my brothers and husband think their VA benefits were cut. Some areas of the nation vary though.....some areas do not seem to have as good veterans service as other areas - and that is a mystery, considering VA benefits are federal programs.

Awesome question! I think it's funny how so many Bush supporters accuse those of us who are against the war of being against the troops, as well. Since GWB supported cutting veterans' benefits, we should ask ourselves who's REALLY against the troops.

You mean he hasn't made allowances in the $400+ Billion budget for our VETS? It's also not going to the nation re-building someone promised...where is it going beside contractors, private militias and embassy's & oil pipelines?

Congress cut the benifits, the bill was signed by the President. If both branches did that there must have been a reason.
