When captioning a picture, what is the proper way to do it?

Example: There's a picture of me standing to the left of my friend Mike.

Would I caption it:
1) "Mike and I" (are in the picture),
2) "Mike and me" (he's first in the picture) or
3) "Me and Mike"(it's my picture anyway, so I should be first)?

I see people doing it every which way, but it bothers me. I'm so confused! >_< Thanks for your help!

With any sentence where there are two or more people just remove the other person and repeat the sentence again .What sounds right to you,"Mike and me or Mike and I?" If you remove Mike from the sentence would you say this is I? Of course not! It would be Mike and me. If it's past tense, say going to the store, you would say Mike and I went to the store not Mike and me went to the store.(because you wouldn't say me went to the store) I know it sounds confusing but just remove the other person from the sentence and say it again to see if it makes sense. I hope you're not MORE confused! PS It doesn't really matter who's name you put first but probably better if you put him first if he's the one on the left.

It depends on the structure of the sentence.

For example:
1. "This is a picture of Mike and me." This is correct.
2. "Mike and I are in this picture." This is also correct.
The way you can tell is by taking out "mike". You wouldn't say, "That's I in that picture," or "me is in this picture."

But, if you're just saying those three words as a caption for a picture, I don't think it really matters. Personally, I think "Mike and I" sounds the best.

Hope that helps. :)

NEVER EVER, put yourself first in a sentence. It is proper to put the other person's name first. Since you are not writing a sentence, this rule does not apply. Since it is a picture, put the name in the caption under the picture. Put Mike and Maggie (if he is on the left and you are on the right). Put Maggie and Mike (if you are on the left).

The "me" pronoun should never come before the reference to any other person. "I" is the subjective pronoun; "me" is the objective. So if you want to caption the picture with Mike and you as the subject, it would be "Mike and I are in the picture." If you want to do it as the object, "This is a picture of Mike and me."

You need to figure out which would be correct, without Mike. Would you say "me" or "I"?

When using "me," it doesn't matter if you put Mike 1st or 2nd, but when using "I," you say "Mike and I."

So, if what you're basically saying, "This is a picture of ..." (if Mike were not there, you'd say "me"). Therefore, you could label it "Me and Mike" or "Mike and me."

If you're going to say "Mike and I," you need to complete the sentence. "Mike and I are fishing."

Mike and I -- you want nominative case for the subject of the sentence; hence "I" and not "me." If you said, "This is a picture of Mike and me", the 'me' is correct as object after the preposition 'of.'

Mike and I because you are the subjects.

The "It is" is understood. The proper question is:

It is Mike and me in the picture.

You always come second. And to find out if you should use "I" or "me" say the sentence without the other person.

In your head ask which one is correct:

It is I in the picture.
or
It is me in the picture.

The latter is correct.

So the answer is:

Mike and me are in the picture.
