No. If insurance premiums were paid by the govt. it still wouldn't be socialized medicine. If the govt. took over the insurance companies it still wouldn't be socialized medicine. Socialized medicine means the govt. takes over the hospitals and the doctors become govt. employees, much like public education.

It's a benefit. Companies get a tax benefit. We get a tax benefit as well because the premiums are paid with pre-tax dollars so our income goes down and we pay less in taxes.

Health insurance isn't working. We need something new. Some companies are figuring out how long they can continue to pay the increases. They usually don't pass all of the increase to their employees, only a portion.
Everyone has a chance to get sick or seriously ill. We all should pay into a system that benefits all of us so we don't have to worry or go into bankruptcy should the worse come to fruition. We can rest a little easier then.

In a way. All of the costs are apportioned equally to all the members. The healthy members of the group who use the least amount of health care services are subsidizing the least healthy members of the group - the smokers and overweight people and the elderly. To lower the company's premium, my boss listed his two teen-age children as employees.

We also already have 'socialized' medicine payed for by the Federal Government. It's called Medicaid and Medicare. My parents have it.

That would be unsocialized Medicine, Like a dog that is not house trained. Every so often you get an unpleasant surprise.

What I have is antisocialized medicine, without any insurance the doctor won't even talk to me.

Socialized medicine would be when nobody asked who you were but only how they could help. You would never lose your house over an unpleasant surprise. That would be a socialized approach.

NO! By definition socialized medicine is controlled by the government. Any health insurance plan sponsored by a private company is just that PRIVATELY funded... i.e., NOT funded by the government. So therefore... it is NOT socialized medicine!!

I guess so, in a way. I work and am compensated in part with medical benefits. If we had socialized medicine, I'd be paying for that too.
I hope you found this answer to be...enlightening.

Well I work in public education. So, technically, yes. When I was NYC I had HIP, which had no premiums, the state paid it all and now I only pay 2% of my income. I have been extremely lucky with my health insurance, but know my situation is the anomaly and not the reality.

Corporations are privately owned and run entities.

They don't qualify for "socialism", by definition. Everyone has the right to walk away from them whenever they want without ever being afraid of penalties from liberals.

It's part of your total salary package. However, when the costs are handed down to me, then it is not, it's just buying insurance all the same.

No, because I have the choice of whether or not to participate. If the government takes over, then I loose my choice and therefore my freedom. Stealing freedom is unamerican, unconstitutional, and just plain evil.
