My girl is only 2 weeks old and i swear she is starting to smile. Is this my imagination? Is it too soon?

Just like every other milestone, there's a wide range. If she's looking up at you and smiling, then yes, that's a social smile! My son started smiling back at me when he was about a week old, and no it was NOT gas. He was looking right into my eyes and smiling back at me, and the pediatrician confirmed it at his two - week checkup. Enjoy it - the first smiles are the most heartwarming!

No, my son smiled from the day he was born. He started out only smiling when he was starting to drift off to sleep. At about 2 weeks he started smiling when he was wide awake and I would talk to him. Now at 5 weeks, he smiles all the time. I know they arnt gas smiles at all. When my son has gas he cries alot, not smiles!!

Usually at that age its a reflex smile. My dd started to maybe real smile at around 6 weeks but we weren't really really sure till around 2 months. Congrats on your baby!

She probably has the gas smiles! They start a real smile between one and two months old. It's the best!

babies smile when they are content (mine did a lot during the 1st 6 weeks as she was drifting off to sleep...soooo cute!!). the social smile (smiling back at someone who smiles at them) comes a bit later... 8 weeks or so.

they can smile from birth, but its not usualy in response to anything you are doing, its just a reflex movement. But its so cute!!!
