That's pretty early. Most likely, the weight you will gain in the beginning will only be because of your eating habits. I have gained weight early on because I get nauseous if I don't eat every 2 or 3 hours. I try to eat light and healthy, but that's not always easy when you have cravings. :)
If anything, your waist will get a little wider before you gain weight on your belly.

You can't even find out you're pregnant until 4 weeks. So yes, 3-1/2 weeks is too early. You bloat early on, but you should only gain 2-3 pounds in your first trimester. On average, you should gain 25-30 pounds during the entire pregnancy (give or take a few pounds depending on whether you were overweight or underweight to start with).
Katie G - I'm NOT ignorant. Tests taken at 3.5 weeks (such as First Response) often produce false negatives when the person is in fact pregnant. The most accurate tests are taken at 4 weeks, on the first day of your missed period. After TTC for 54 months, I think I know a thing or two about how babies are made thank you VERY much.

Everyone is different, but you won't be gaining real weight that early in a pregnancy. A lot of women make it through the first trimester and actually lose weight. I've gained weight, but in all honesty, it's not 'cuz of the baby, it's cuz I'm eating a lot.
I had two positive home pregnancy tests when I was BARELY three weeks. Of course there are false negatives that early...but it doesn't mean that you can't know.

3.5 weeks is a little early to be gaining weight, but in reality every person is different. if you are really skinny, you may see weight gain earlier. i am 19 weeks and at my 17 week checkup, i hadn't gained anything. i lost almost 15 lbs at the beginning of my pregnancy.
i found out i was pregnant at 3 weeks, and my friend Amanda did too...my friend susan was 9 days. a store bought test may produce false negatives...but rarely does it produce false positives...blood tests can determine super early. sometime's it's instinct. i've never heard of a set week that you have towait for to find out. it's based on missed periods and hormonal levels. at 3 weeks, mine were super high!
congrats and good luck!!!

Usually a high weight gain in extremely early pregnancy is due to giving into cravings...try not to do that too much! Like others have said, 2-3 lbs in the first trimester is average. I personally lost 5 lbs due to stress and nausea due to my prenatal vitamin ( I didn't have any other nausea...until I took that darn vitamin...). So to answer your question, it's completely unique to each pregnancy...just use your own judgement and have self-control when it comes to the cravings! Congrats and good luck!
