-Does anyone know of such places? I would really enjoy a mountain setting such as say West Virginia, but I am open to almost anywhere.

-I would want to live in an area that has access to roads, butr these places need to be well off the main roads. I wouldn't want to live in the wilderness, I just want a place with very few people that is calm and secluded.

-I don't think I'd like the American south (places like Alabama, Louisiana, but might be open to Arkansas)

-I think the north would be my preference and if there are such places in the northeast that would also be great.

-A location that has lakes, four distinct seasons, and is in a mountainous area would be my preference, but again any secluded places in the mainland US are desirable.

-states like Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, West Virginia, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire would be first tier places for me.

-any information on secluded/serene places to live would be appreciated greatly.

Try not to stay out too far. There are man hunters lurking about!

Halcott, NY, is a tiny town (less than 200 people in the entire township; plenty of dead-end roads with few or no houses) in a secluded Catskill Mountains valley bordered by state parkland on two sides. Most people aren't even aware of the town.

you'd be about five miles from a village called Flieshman's, which has a small general store, post office and an occassional Trailways bus. From there's about a half hour east or west to a small town that would have a small supermarket. There is a ski center not far from there either, if that's a plus or not.

I live way up in the Colorado Rockies, and if it's seclusion your looking for, Colorado has it! I live in the middle of all the ski resort towns, an hour or so either way, people up here are generally great, but sometimes I think the clean air does something to their brains! LOL especially if they aren't used to living up at this altitude. Good luck I hope you find your place.

I have been researching the northern coastal area of NC...not only is it cheap to live there, but the soil is so fertile that you can grow your own food. Also, you would have plenty of access to go fishing, if only a drive away. I saw a few jobs, and most of them are easy (cleaners, housekeepers), but they only pay about $8-10/hour.

It sounds lovely.

I'm not American, so I can't recommend you on this.

But I wish you invited me one day to visit you, after you have moved in your new house.
