I have always turned the light switch off and used a pair on needle nose pliers to twist out the base of the bulb.

Use the plier trick (needlenose is best). Just make sure you turn the light switch off before poking around in the socket.
Also, before you put a new light bulb in, coat the threads on the base of it with a very thin film of petroleum jelly or WD-40. This will help prevent the bulb from sticking in the socket next time.

Get a 12 gauge shotgun with double 00 buck shot and just blow the dam thing off!!
(You already have the correct answer - I prefer the spud method with the switch in the off position)

Make sure the power is off to the light. Use a pair of pliers to grip the edge and turn it out.

Turn the power off and use your needle nosed pliers to grip the sides of the metal bulb part. turn counterclockwise to remove.

turn the light switch off. use a small potatoe stick it in the socket and turn it out this will work. Good luck.
