I am flying into Stansted and staying in the Custom House Hotel in The Docklands and i have no idea of how to get there, how much and how far away etc.....

Quickest and cheapest way
National Express coach NXA9 to Stratford - £8
Jubilee Line underground to Canning Town - £1.50
DLR to Custom House.

Check out the 'TFL' website:- journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk - enter start point as Stanstead Airport station option station end point Custom House Hotel option place of interest. With luck the journey takes around an hour and a half but you need a train that stops at Stratford some go direct into Liverpool Street station London its no big deal if you end up there and go a different route

It is nearly 34 miles.
Time to get there 1 hour 14 minutes. (See route planner link) if hiring a car.
There is a train from Stansted which you can catch to Liverpool St. Station London.
Your hotel is about 6 miles from Liverpool St Station.
I have included the train link so you can see what it costs.
I think a taxi from Liverpool St Station to your hotel will be between £10-£20.

about half hour by train from airport to liverpool street station (if its working at full speed)and about the same from liverpool street to docklands by taxi

Go to google.com ---> click on 'maps' ---> click on 'get directions' ---> enter 'Stanstead' in the from box, 'The Docklands' in the other ---> A map, with directions and journey time/distance!
